What
is most impressive about new, much sought after
vocalist Teddy Houston is his
uncanny ability to reach people through his powerful
music. His unique delivery of soulful tunes like
Could It Be? and Just Hangin On gently persuades
the listeners to look inward and realize their
deepest feelings.
The Port Arthur, Texas native grew up in a family
in which music played an integral role. "My
mother had eclectic taste in music. Our entire
family was exposed to all kinds of music".
This early exposure and its uplifting effect influenced
Houston to take on an industry
that is, at best difficult to break into. But
this gifted baritone remains focused, and is as
confident about his future as his baritone is
crisp. His versatility is readily evident in his
rendition of old school, contemporary, and gospel;
sweetened with a twist of hip hop flavor.
While music lovers familiar with his music compare
him to the late great Luther Vandross and Arthur
Prysock, Houston remains grounded. "I am
an optimist who wants to touch, uplift, and motivate
people by communicating with them through music;
the universal language". His long awaited
CD contains smooth ballads as well as infectious
dance tracks, including; the hard hitting Revolving
Door, Let's Dance, You and I, and the alluring
title cut Are You Ready?
Houston and his brother John write and
co-produce all their lyrics. He credits John with
being the "core" of all his musical
ventures. "John is my lyrical ambassador.
He facilitates collaborations with other entertainers
in the industry and is always thinking forward
to our next project".
Teddy Houston believes we exist to encourage,
affirm and serve one another. "God has commissioned
us to do so and provided the tools with which
to accomplish it. My tool is my music".
